Gradings and belts
The grading examination allows the student to formally show that they are progressing in both knowledge and skills and are ready to move up to the next level of belt.
The Shotokan Connect assessment syllabus describes the criteria that must be met.
Intermediate grades are given where a student has made good progress but hasn’t quite met all the requirements to achieve the next belt at this grading. There are no intermediate grades awarded up to 9th Kyu
The grading has three three parts:
KIHON (Basics)
KATA (Set forms)
KUMITE (Sparring)
All grading candidates MUST hold an up to date Shotokan Connect licence, sign up for your licence here
Gradings are assessed according the the Shotokan Connect grading syllabus which can be downloaded here:
Gradings are held three times a year for Kyu (coloured belt) grades
Note: Students do not have an automatic right to grade at any level,
permission to grade must always be obtained from your club instructor
Your attendance card should be stamped at each class by a
club instructor or representative.
Stamps can be gained at any club where the instructors
teach, as well as those gained at their own club.
